There weren’t any fireworks for the Michigan Wolverines for this year’s Fourth of July, but they received some great news on the recruiting front yesterday when two top targets announced their respective commitments.

Four-star TE explains decision to commit to U-M
Yesterday, the Wolverines acquired the commitment of 2025 four-star tight end Andrew Olesh. The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder from Center Valley, Pennsylvania had a top list consisting of Michigan, Alabama, Penn State and Florida.
Speaking with 247Sports’ Brian Dohn ($), Olesh talked about one of the ultimate factors that led to him committing to Michigan.
“The most important thing for me with Michigan was the path to playing time,” Olesh said. “They have some dudes in the room, but I feel like I could go in there and play very early. That was my main concern, getting on the field.”
Another key reason he chose Ann Arbor as his future college home? Tight ends coach Steve Casula. He hasn’t been in his role at Michigan for long, but he played a crucial role in Olesh pledging to the Wolverines.
“Ever since (the day I was offered), we were building that relationship,” said Olesh. “I got to go to Michigan twice and see him and really get to know him. When he calls me or texts me, it’s just about football. It could be about family.
“He’s one of those guys that it’s not all about football. It’s about family, too. I can really connect with him not just at a football level, but a family aspect.”
Olesh joins four-star Eli Owens as tight ends in Michigan’s 2025 class.
Five-star in-state hoops prospect locks in OV
As first reported by On3’s Joe Tipton ($), 2025 five-star guard Trey McKenney is slated to officially visit Michigan on Sept. 21. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder hails from Flint and plays for St. Mary’s High School.
According to Tipton, McKenney also has official visits scheduled for USC (Sept. 1), Michigan State (Oct. 4), Oregon (Oct. 12), Notre Dame (Nov. 9) and Creighton (Dec. 4). He has already officially visited Georgetown, Rutgers and TCU.
When it comes to Michigan, McKenney said: “My conversations with Dusty May have been pretty good so far. We came to my school recently to visit me. We just talked about how I would fit into the system and how he coaches and interacts with his players. He talked with me about Johnell Davis, being a big scorer and how he fit into the system. We went over how I fit in his style.”
McKenney is a big time hoops prospect. He earned a spot on the MaxPreps Junior All-American second-team and was the Michigan MaxPreps Player of the Year. He averaged 22.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game and won the state championship. His squad lost one game all year thanks to his major contributions on the hardwood.
McKenney is the No. 16 overall prospect in his class on the 247Sports composite, as well as the No. 1 player from Michigan and the No. 3 shooting guard.
Four-star WR breaks down commitment to U-M
Olesh wasn’t the only player on the offensive side of the ball to commit in recent weeks, as 2025 four-star wide receiver Jacob Washington also picked the Wolverines after a successful official visit in June.
Washington opened up recently on his decision to pick Michigan with On3’s EJ Holland ($).
“Michigan checked all my boxes,” Washington said. “It was a perfect fit for me academically as well as athletically. I loved the family oriented culture and the brotherhood of the program.
“The players gave me a great idea of what it means to be a Michigan Man. Winning is embedded in the culture there and that resonates with me because I am a winner.”
Washington, who stands 6-foot-3, is the biggest wide receiver Michigan has landed a commitment from in the high school ranks since Darrius Clemons and Amorion Walker in the 2022 class. He is a much-needed bigger body to add to a currently smaller overall receiver room that includes the aforementioned Walker — who is the standout at 6-foot-3 — Semaj Morgan, Tyler Morris, Fred Moore, I’Marion Stewart and Channing Goodwin, to name a handful.
Head coach Sherrone Moore recognized his skills and height, telling Washington how he could use his “length, height and speed to stretch the field.”
Top-100 CB discusses receiving offer from U-M
Let’s head to the 2026 class to round out today’s edition of the Recruiting Roundup. LaMar Morgan and the Wolverines recently sent an offer out to four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson. Hailing from the state of Alabama, Gibson is 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, with other offers already from schools like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami and more.
Gibson discussed his interaction with Morgan, which was his first conversation with him, with On3’s Holland ($).
“He seemed like a nice, chill guy,” Gibson said of Morgan. “I enjoyed talking to him. He said he watched my film and that he wanted to give me an offer. It was a good conversation. We just have to keep talking.”
The next step in the recruiting process for Gibson would be to get to Ann Arbor and see what it would be like to be a student at Michigan. He admitted he’s hoping to do so for a game, but he also said the recruiting process has been “a little stressful.” We’ll see if this goes anywhere, but it’s at least good to see that Morgan is going after the best of the best.
Gibson is ranked No. 66 overall in his class and No. 6 at the cornerback position, per 247Sports’ composite.
