General Information
The following guide covers everythingyou need to know about Beast Mastery Hunter Pets in The War Within, including the best ones to use in each situation such as Raiding, Mythic+,and Soloing/Open-World Content.
Please refer to our Hunter Pets Guide formore information regarding Hunter pets, including what the different pet families are andwhere you can find pets.
1.
Best Raiding Pet for Beast Mastery Hunter in The War Within
In the following sections, we describe the best Pets for varioussituations. We make some references to their abilities. If you want to know indetail about all the pets, specializations, families, and special abilities, scroll further down to our table covering this information.
For Raiding in The War Within, you should look towardsSpirit Beast (Tenacity)pets primarily. We do not want Ferocity pets because the Leechthey offer will primarily heal your pet since it is doing most of your damage.
Additionally, Spirit Beasts offer Spirit Mend, a self-heal every 30seconds for around 10% of you or a friendly player's maximum health. MostHunters do not use this manually but macro it into defensives like
Exhilaration or
Survival of the Fittest. Leaving it on"auto-cast" will automatically pick a low-health target in the group toheal.
While a Spirit Beast will serve you well in mostsituations, Healing Reduction pets like Hyenas, Rodents, and Raptors can besituationally useful. These will reduce enemy healing, and this effect workson bosses that heal themselves and can be invaluable in niche scenarios whereno one else is providing this effect.
2.
Best Mythic+ Pet for Beast Mastery Hunter in The War Within
For Mythic+, the first consideration you need to make is whether you need tobe the Bloodlust for the group. If you do, then you are locked intousing a Ferocity pet. The best Ferocity pet you can use for almost all Mythic+purposes is a
Mortal Wounds healing reduction pet, such as a CarrionBird, Devilsaur, Ravager, Scorpid, or Wasp. There are several mobs throughoutMythic+ in The War Within that heal themselves, as well as bosses. Since none ofthe other pet utilities is typically relevant for Mythic+, having a Ferocityhealing reduction pet as your "default" is a safe bet.
If you do not need to Bloodlust for your group, then Irecommend the same as for Raiding, a Spirit Beast. These do not providehealing reduction, however, so in dungeons where this is a concern, swap to aTenacity Healing Reduction pet, like a Direhorn, Hydra, Lizard, orRiverbeast.
Finally, you should also have a Damage Reduction Tenacity pet prepared. These can be used to taunt mobs for heavy tankbuster mechanics to spare yourtank a lot of damage. With their 50% damage reduction on a 1-minute cooldownand 5% extra max health, these pets can take heavy hits regularly.
3.
Best Soloing and Leveling Pet for Beast Mastery Hunter in The War Within
For open-world content and soloing in The War Within, Ferocity pets areincredible, as all of their Beast Cleave damage will contribute tohealing itself. The best Ferocity pet for tanking things is theClefthoof. Their
Blood of the Rhino means that their Leech willheal themselvesfor more, and the increased Armor will reduce Physical damage takensubstantially.
4.
Pet Specializations
There are 3 different pet specializations. These specializationsare determined by your pet family and they cannot be changed. We recommendhaving a variety of pets of each spec, so that you can cover any situation.
